You can define bounds for variables in order to ensure that investigators will enter data in an expected range. For example, you may want to limit the values of height (in centimeters) in the range 100 - 250 to avoid any patients with a height over 250cm.

Bounds for Numeric variables

1. Go to variable edition
2. Choose a numeric variable
3. Fill the fields minimum value and maximum value
4. Save

When a user enters a value out of the authorized range, an error message will appear and the value will not be saved.

Authorized values for List variables

You can define a set of authorized values for a List variable.

For example, if you ask for a classification with 4 stages, it is advised to predefine 4 authorized values, one for each stage.

1. Go to variable edition
2. Choose a List variable
3. Click on "+ New value"
4. Add your first value
5. Save
6. Repeat the previous steps to add more authorized values

It is also possible to let the user create new values on-the-go if you think that the predefined authorized values may not be sufficient.

2. Choose a list variable
3. Under "Can user enter free text", choose "Yes, if the choice is not in the list"
4. Save
