Change a variable type

Modified on Fri, 7 Mar at 3:15 PM

You can change a variable type directly below its name by clicking the blue link: "Convert to another type"

Available conversions:

  • Yes/No → List: "Yes" and "No" become list values.
  • Yes/No → Numeric: You must assign a numeric value to "Yes" and "No".
  • Numeric → Yes/No: A message appears: "The value will be Yes if the numeric value is between …". You must define the range; all other values will be "No".
  • Numeric → List: You can choose to add a prefix ("Would you like to add a prefix?") and round numbers("Would you like to round values to the closest integer?"). You can leave the prefix empty and select "No" for rounding.
  • List → Numeric: You must assign each list value to a numeric value.
  • List → Yes/No: Each list value must be assigned to "Yes", "No", or Ignore modality.
  • List (Free Text)→ Another type(numeric and Yes/No): Can be converted to Numeric or Yes/No without changes.

Some conversions are not available yet:

  • Event date variables cannot be converted.

  • You cannot convert variables into an event date type.
