Why grouping or reordering modalities of a List variable?

A List variable can contain as many possible values as you desire. These possible values are called "modalities". However, you may wish in some cases to group some values together.

Take the example of a variable named "Class of age" which can take the following values "≤ 20 years", "20 - 39 years", "40 - 59 years" and "≥ 60 years". You may want to group together patients who are aged less than 40 years and compare them to patients who are older than 40 years.

How to reorder modalities of a List variable?

1. Go to "Test variables"
2. Pick a List variable
3. Click on the settings icon next to the name of the variable
4. Each group is represented as a column.
5. You can add or delete columns to create or remove groups
6. Each line represents a modality of your List variable
7. Match one or several modalities to each group
8. Validate by clicking on "Confirm"
