Why “Retroactive mode” may be unavailable?

Modified on Mon, 2 Mar at 11:50 AM

When you activate a Dynamic Variable, EasyMedStat can offer an optional Retroactive mode. This mode recalculates the variable for existing patients and may write/update values across records that are already in the database.

Because this operation can modify patient data at scale, it is treated as an action equivalent to editing patients.

You therefore need the Edit patients permission to use the "Retroactive mode".

If you do not have the permission “Edit patients”, you can still:

  • Create or edit Dynamic Variables (if you have Variable management permission)

  • Activate a Dynamic Variable for future use, without retroactive mode

But you may see Retroactive mode disabled because:

  • Running it would update existing patient records

  • Your role is not allowed to perform patient data edits

If you need to backfill a Dynamic Variable on existing patients:

  • Ask a user with both “Edit patients” and "Variable management" permissions to run Retroactive mode

  • Or request a permission update from your study administrator
