How can I include the randomization group in a data export?

By default, the randomization group is not included in data exports. This helps preserve blinding for most users and avoids accidental disclosure of treatment assignments.

How to include the randomization group in exports?

If you need to include the group allocation in your export, make sure the following conditions are met:

1. You must have the right permission

  • You need the “View randomization arm” permission on the study.
  • Without this permission, the randomization variable will either be:
  • Completely hidden from the export
  • Or replaced by the word “blinded”, depending on the export type

2. You must include the randomization variable in the export scope

  • Make sure the category containing the randomization variable is included in the export settings.
  • If the variable is hidden (e.g. due to limited variable access or display conditions), it will not appear in the exported file.

Additional notes

  • In the PDF export, a specific checkbox is available “Display the randomization group in the export". This checkbox appears only if randomization is enabled in the study, is available only to users with the proper permission and is unchecked by default
  • In CSV or Excel exports, the randomization group appears as a regular variable once all conditions are met.
  • For blinded studies, make sure only authorized roles (e.g. statisticians or data managers) have the permission to view and export the group allocation.
